You feel hot, but also cold. A little sweaty and fairly certain your legs are a part of the tan carpet along with the blotchy stains from countless spills of Monster energy drink. And there’s a faint smell of something rotten coming from under the couch that turns your stomach.

My legs have always been like that right? You wiggle your right foot and realize it’s just the mushrooms.

You glance up at the clock on the shelf; it’s 5:54pm.

“How is that possible?” The sound of your own question asked aloud startles you a bit as you look about the small living room of you and your friend’s apartment. White walls accentuate a Kobe Bryant poster performing a lay-up out of the corner of your eye while Jake the Dog is obsessing over a card game you’ve never heard of, but are quite certain is real. No wait, that’s just the tv…

“Hey.” Your friend appears out of thin air. “I need to run to Walmart to pick up a few things.”

You had no idea he could teleport like that.

“Do you wanna come along? Might be fun, considering…” He gestures in your general direction, giving you the sense that he knows a great deal more about you, than you do yourself.

Gazing up at him, a glowing yellow light hovers like a circlet above his head, and a face in the popcorn ceiling winks at you.
